Kurosawa Crazy: An Introduction

I have decided to watch every available film Akira Kurosawa has directed.

I will write a review/essay for every film I watch.
I’m afraid. Very afraid.

I always thought that Kurosawa wouldn’t be my cup of tea. His work always seemed to be so slow and plodding – which has it's merits - but I have to actively hype myself up to watch. If I had to pick a bunch of desert island films, they would not be of the intellectual stimulating variety, but of the fastexplosionactionfunlaugh species. I am aware that Kurosawa made a number of popular pictures, but I’ve always perceived his work as being quintessential slow and Japanese (which is ironic considering people always considered his work American style). This project is an attempt to work through my cinematic prejudices.

I will not be watching his filmography in chronological or alphabetical order. I will watch whatever film takes my fancy at whatever particular time.

Feel free to correct me or open a discussion with me about any subject that comes up. There are spoilers in the reviews, but the work of a master usually falls out of the ‘GIVE A VAGUE SYNOPSIS’ zone because the work can stand on its own without the need of surprise.

Enjoy.
